It’s been over 15 years since I was last at Knott’s Berry Farm! But that all changed this weekend, when our entire family was invited to the opening weekend of (the non-scary Halloween themed event). I had forgotten how beautiful theĀ all the old time western buildings are, and how many amazing shops they have! We spent a long time looking around and just taking it all in. We brought Ever’s costume with us, and after we all took a ride on Bigfoot Rapids (we were all completely drenched) she dawned her new attire and went trick-or-treating around the park. Knott’s Spooky Farm runs every weekend in October, don’t miss it if you have little ones who love holiday fun!

January is always such a tough month for us to get back on track after holiday after holiday, and birthday after birthday. There’s always company, Joel’s school’s graduation, and all those incredible Christmas parties and services to attend. Is it any wonder that we usually gyp Ever from having a party? I feel completely justified. I also feel terrible. This year we decided that we had to make a real effort to give her a special party she’d love, and of course she wanted Harry Potter! I didn’t know how I was going to pull off some of her requests, like when she told me she wanted a Snitch cake with 3 tiers and “chickens with lettuce under them” on the dinner table as decorations (just like in the movie in the Great Hall!) Seriously?! We did our best and it was pretty delightful, I basically ran out time to do anything else because we came up with so many ideas that we wanted to try.
All the printables were free on pinterest, shame on me for not saving the links for this post.. it’s literally been 6 months, but I will try to find some of them and update with those if anyone wants.
Party supplies: death eater tattoos, Hedwig, horcrux, chocolate frog mold, brick wall backdrop, Bertie Bott’s Beans, Harry Potter glasses, Harry Potter wand, snitch, & Slytherin robe.

What’s better than a dinosaur egg hunt, a fossil dig, and kids dressed like 90’s archeologists?
One funny think that happened is that the company I usually buy tiramisu from (the one that makes me least sick, and is almost worth it) stopped making their tiramisu cake. So the day OF the party, we were scrambling for a tiramisu cake, which Cruz had requested…this tiny one was all we could find! The Dino basically toppled the cake, but Cruz didn’t seem to mind. He also wanted all meat for the dinner. Hence the “Carnivore Feast” came to life.
Activities:
-Fossil Dig: wadding pool, soil, moss, rocks and fossils. I added a little plaster in there to make it extra hard, since it would have been too easy for the big kids.
-Egg hunt: We made paper mache eggs with little dinosaur toys in them and hid them around the yard for the kids to find.
